"Technology Enhanced Learning & Library Literacy Programmes for AY2019/20”​

 

THEi Learning Commons will organize a series of Programmes on Technology-Enhanced Learning & Professional Development, Library Literacy & Academic Writing Programmes for AY2019/20 in this academic year.

 

We are going to hold a series of Workshops in February 2020. We are pleased to invite you to participate in the workshops.

An Introduction to 24/7 Online Learning Support – Studiosity (for Students)

Speaker:

Workshop outline:

  • An introduction to Studiosity, hands-on demonstration of the use of online/real-time chat and online writing submission, and Q&A
  • N.B. The Workshop will be video-taped and post on Moodle.

Remarks: Participating staff will be awarded Continuous Professional Development (CPD) hours and the record will be uploaded centrally by the HR.

THEi Learning Commons are going to hold “WGSN by Ascential Databases Workshop” on 21st February 2020, a Module in the Programme, “Library Resources and Academic Writing”.

 

Also, we will set up the information booth to provide more detailed databases information, THEi staff and students are welcome!

EBSCO Faculty Select is a new library resource which allows faculty members to easily search and access quality open textbooks and Open Educational Resources (OER) through a single interface, and to request access to unrestricted library e-books from top academic publishers. Faculty Select is designed to help faculty locate and incorporate relevant course materials while directly supporting textbook affordability efforts.

Speaker:

Mr CHEUNG Man-hon, Matthew

(Program Leader, Library and Information Science, College of Life Science and Technology, HKU SPACE)

Mr Cheung Man-hon, Matthew is a Program Leader, at HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education ( HKU SPACE) since 2012. He carries out teaching duties in Higher Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs on library and information studies. He also plans lectures, involves in e-learning programs development and supports HKU SPACE programs promotion.

 

Mr CHAN Wai Ming

(Assistant Librarian I, Cataloguing Librarian, Technical Services, the University of Hong Kong Libraries (HKUL))

Mr Chan Wai Ming is an Assistant Librarian I, Cataloguing Librarian, Technical Services, at the University of Hong Kong Libraries (HKUL). He is the Head of CJK and AV materials Cataloguing Team and the Head of Physical Processing Team to provide effective cataloguing operations that meet users’ needs and support the library’s mission. He has been serving at HKUL since 1989.

1. Differences between AACR2r and RDA

2. Using RDA to describe monographs

3. Using MARC21 to code RDA descriptive data elements

4. Composition of LCC

5. How to construct an LC Call Number

6. Hands-on skills to do the cataloguing of library collection, including print, visual materials and online learning resources
