Mr LEUNG King Lon, Alvin

Honorary Professor

Mr LEUNG King Lon, Alvin

With his trademark fiery charisma and “rock and roll” image, chef Alvin Leung has blazed a trail of his own in the culinary world. The self-proclaimed ‘Demon Chef’ – with the Chinese characters 廚魔 which he has tattooed –  he is one of few self-taught chefs to achieve 3 Michelin star status.

British born, raised in Scarborough, Ontario, he entered the culinary world briefly as a busboy before pursuing a formal education in engineering, eventually joining his family’s business where he trained and practised as an engineer, as a result, he developed a methodological yet creative approach to cooking.

In 2003, Leung began cooking professionally when he partnered with a speak-easy called Bo which he later renamed as Bo Innovation. Since then, he has opened restaurants around the world including Hong Kong, Toronto, Dubai, Kula Lumper, Singapore and ShenZhen.

With his natural outlandish personality and wit, he is often sought after for media and leading campaigns for major luxury brands and hotels. A familiar face on mass media, he has appeared on television shows such as Masterchef Canada, Wok The World, The Maverick Chef, Wok Stars, Seoul Extreme and Seoul Refined.

Eager to share his cooking passion with the youth in the kitchen. Leung regularly give talks at culinary schools, judges culinary competitions and is the president of the Canadian Bocuse d’Or team.

Demon Chef Alvin LEUNG has served as the Distinguished Guest Chef Speaker at THEi. Alvin has been inviting our Year-4 students from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Culinary Arts and Management programme to have a unique fine dining experience at Bo Innovation for years.
