IDS Seminar Series - Wood Waste Valorization and Conversion to Fuels

Forums, Workshops & Seminars

On 25 April 2018, the Research Centre for Waste and Resource Management (the Centre) at THEi organized a seminar on the topic of the valorization process to convert wood waste into vehicular fuels. Delivered by Dr TSANG Chi Wing, Alex, Teaching Fellow of Environmental Engineering and Management Programme and the Research Manager (Plastic and Polymeric Wastes) of the Centre, the seminar attracted over 50 students from the Department of Construction Technology and Engineering.

During the seminar, Dr TSANG introduced the chemical process that effectively degrades lignin, a biopolymer that cross-linked to form the structure of wood, into smaller compounds for conversion into fuels. He shared with the audiences his research outcomes on the development of an effective catalytic system that elucidate the mechanism of lignin degradation.

The Research Centre for Waste and Resource Management at THEi is supported by a grant from the Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China (Project No.: UGC/IDS25/15).
