A donation of HK$6 million is pledged by Kentec of Taiwan for establishing the first-ever Local Perfect Power Grid Centre of Hong Kong in THEi’s campus at Tsing Yi, which will become the best-equipped centre in the technological development and testing of renewable energy among the tertiary institutions of Hong Kong.

Kentec Inc. (part of Kenmec Group) is a leading manufacturer of high-tech products in Taiwan, and is dedicated to the development and promotion of a Green Power System for creating a greener and better future.

The agreement signing ceremony for the establishment of the Local Perfect Power Grid Centre was held on 6 March 2013.  Professor David LIM, President of THEi, and Frank HSIEH, Chairman of Kenmec Group, signed the agreement to initiate future exchanges on the latest technologies in renewable energy, and manpower training. The centre will constitute three laboratories, namely (1) Renewable Energy Generation Laboratory, (2) Advanced Energy Storage Laboratory, and (3) Dynamic Micro-Grid Laboratory.  The first laboratory will be established in June 2013 and its sophisticated equipment and facilities will enable students to gain solid practical experience in the technology of renewable energy.
