In view of THEi's vision to foster Problem-based Learning (PBL) and the changing landscape of higher education, the 1st General Education Symposium will be held on 3rd June 2021.  We sincerely invite you to submit the abstract to present the ideas about the pedagogy on teaching the general education courses.  In the symposium, we will invite a keynote speaker and a guest speaker.  Our keynote speaker is Professor Benny NG, Assistant Professor of Los Angeles Pierce College, a high-profile speaker with particular interests in gamification and distance education.  Professor NG will address issues about “Gamification and its Future Use on General Education as education-related computerized games have become increasingly pivotal teaching and learning tools to engage and assess student learning.  He will propose ways to incorporate games into teaching to enhance students’ engagement.

In addition, another guest speaker, Mr Matthew TANG is a senior IT executive focusing on digital transformation in banking and financial services industries. His proposed topic is “Seeking Certainty in Uncertain Times: A Critical Reflection on Big Data and its Application” and the plausibility of applying big data in General Education will be covered in his talk.  Also, he will elucidate the benefits and threats of big data analytics and propose ways to reinforce digital literacy in the 21st century.
