Three Year-1 students from the Bachelor of Art (Honours) in Product Design programme won third prize in the Samsung “Solve for Tomorrow” competition for the tertiary institution category, which included entries from UGC-funded universities.  There were over 1,000 designs from all categories for the competition.

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is a competition for students in primary and secondary schools and tertiary institutions to show their ideas using technology to solve an environmental issue and create a greener Hong Kong.  The students are required to record a 2-minute video showcasing their idea and the way to solve the environmental issue faced by Hong Kong.  The shortlisted 20 entries were voted by the public and entered the final round.  The first three places of winners in each category were chosen by a panel of judges in terms of 5 criteria: 1) Identifying the problem;2) Using Technology; 3) Creativity; 4) Inspiring others; and 5) Practicality.

THEi’s students entered the competition with their design concept “Solar Pathway”, which provides a total design solution on local transportation with sustainable energy.  Both the students and Institute received the prize, worth a total of HK$100,000 of cash and Samsung products.

THEi Year-1 Product Design students FAN Hiu Ching, LIU Wai Sam, and WONG Chun Na awarded the Third Prize in the Competition.         Solar Path
