SARP2020 Awards Competition & How-to-Vote

AWARDS COMPETITION

 

Awards are given to the outstanding THEi student researchers of SARP2020.  There are two types of award - Best Poster Award & Best Video Presentation Award.  All the posters and videos submitted by the students are entered into the competition. 

 

All visitors can vote for their favourite posters and video presentation.  The students whose presentations obtain the highest votes are the winners.  

 

A cash prize of HK$1,000 will be given to the 1st Winner, HK$800 to the 2nd runner-up, and HK$500 to the 3rd runner-up.

 

BEST POSTER AWARDS

 

These awards are given to the outstanding poster(s) from each faculty.  Based on the number of posters submitted, the number of awards available are as follows:

 

Faculty of Design and Environment

3 awards: 1st, 2nd, 3rd

Faculty of Management and Hospitality

1 award

Faculty of Science and Technology

3 awards: 1st, 2nd, 3rd

 

BEST VIDEO PRESENTATION AWARD

 

This award is given to the single most outstanding video presentation of this year.  

 

 

VOTING GUIDE

 

WHO CAN VOTE?

Voting is open for ALL. 

Everyone with a valid institutional email address can vote. An institutional email is the one provided by your employer or your school, e.g. xxx@vtc.edu.hk or xxx@hku.hk. 

Public domain email address will not be accepted, e.g. xxx@gmail.com, xxx@hotmail.com or xxx@163.com etc. 

 

WHEN CAN I VOTE?

The voting period is 1 – 10 August 2020.

 

HOW DO I VOTE?

You have FOUR votes in total.  You can select ONE poster from each faculty, and ONE video from all the video presentations.  

 

To vote, you need to be connected to the internet.  Go to the individual faculty's poster/video webpage, click the “Click Here to Vote...” button at the top or bottom of the page. This will open the voting form for that particular faculty. Each vote opens a different form. Answer the questions to cast your vote.

 

The selection criteria is in a section below for your information.

 

CAN I CHANGE MY VOTE?

Yes. If you have already submitted your votes but changed your mind, just return to that faculty's poster page, click the “Click Here to Vote” button and fill in another form. Your latest vote will be counted as the valid one.

BEST POSTER AWARD

 

1. Research Quality (30%)

  • Use appropriate research methodology to systematically investigate the issue
  • Add new knowledge to the discipline

2. Innovativeness (30%)

  • Propose novel ideas to improve existing products/methods/processes
  • Demonstrate creative problem-solving

3. Potential Impact to Society (20%)

  • Bring potential benefits for many
  • Is relevant for the local industry or society

4. Visual Design (20%)

  • Is visually engaging
  • Use a unique design that is well-suited for the topic

BEST VIDEO PRESENTATION AWARD
  1. Value of the project (30%)
  2. Clear presentation with appropriate audio/visual aids (30%)
  3. Ability to engage the audience (20%)
  4. Appropriate video length with good time control (20%)
