This Programme will seek accreditation by the HKILA. Holding a degree accredited by the HKILA is a pre-requisite to admission to the professional practice examination set by it, and the passing of which is a requirement towards its professional membership. Professional members of HKILA are eligible to be registered as landscape architects under the Landscape Architects Registration Board after obtaining the minimum of one year of local experience.
Hong Kong is the first in Asia to have its own professional institute in landscape architecture, the HKILA. Through the enactment of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects Incorporation Ordinance (Cap. 1162) and the Landscape Archtiects Registration Ordinance (Cap. 516) in 1996 and 1997 respectively, landscape architecture became one of the very few professions in Hong Kong that are recognised, protected and regulated by law. The well-established legal and adminstrative framework for landscape architectural practice in Hong Kong have laid a solid foundation for the development of the profession both locally and in exporting its services to nearby regions. The recent changes in public aspiration and government policy for Hong Kong to become a “sustainable city” has created a pressing demand in the planning, design, and management of Hong Kong’s landscapes and public open spaces.
The programme is intended to seek professional accreditation by the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA). Under the latest amendment of the By-Law of Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA), students enroled in this programme are eligible to be elected as a student member of the HKILA.
