22 students and teaching staffs from Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Horticulture and Landscape Management (HLM) program visited Wanglang Nature Reserve and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding to understand the in-situ and ex-situ conservation of Giant Panda in Sichuan from 11-17 May 2019.

 

There had been field studies, research activities and cultural visits during the study tour. Field activities to find out wild pandas in the nature reserve was conducted and students practiced the installation of camera traps for tracking wild pandas. We also visited an ancient cultural village in the reserve to get familiar with the historical value and its conflict to nature conservation. We visited the forest dynamic plot there to get familiar with the forest management and research work there. We also conducted a field survey to examine the abundance of amphibians in the forest and freshwater stream nearby.
