Dr Lu Xiaoying, Helen, of the Department of Construction Technology and Engineering/FST presented the key findings of her three research projects, which all focused on the green recycling of used lithium-ion batteries, such as smartphone batteries for her first project. Her third and currently ongoing project investigates the recycling of used electric vehicle batteries as the market for electric cars and buses will grow in the coming years. This means there will be an increase in the disposal of used electric vehicle batteries, which are harmful to people and the environment. Dr Lu discusses how recycling used batteries can help reduce environmental burdens and wastage of valuable metal resources in a research webinar entitled “Green Recycling of Spent Electric Vehicle Batteries” on 23 February 2023.

The webinar was attended by 49 participants, of both students and teachers, from THEi and the VTC. The webinar was well received, with audiences showing interests in the lithium-ion battery industry and the battery recycling business.
