MAD in Singapore Student Summit

“MAD in Singapore” is a national Students’ Summit organised by the School of Design of the Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Singapore, and supported by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore.  This inaugural event provides a platform for design and architecture students from various institutions to collaborate, network and cultivate ground up initiatives in the public realm.  Selected projects during the Summit are awarded grants by URA for implementation under the “Our Favourite Place” initiative.  113 students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) of Singapore, Republic Polytechnic (Singapore), Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Singapore), THEi (Hong Kong), Institute of Technical Education (Singapore), School of Design and School of Interactive & Digital Media of NYP took part.  20 practitioners from industry and academics such as URA, WOHA Architects, Hassell and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) gave talks and mentored the participants during the Summit.

7 teams were selected to implement their proposals and received funding (up to $10,000) from URA.  One of the winning team is from Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi).

50 SD/SA Year 1 and Year 2 students were involved as participants and helpers during the Summit.  The feedback from both participants, mentors and speakers were very good.  This Summit can be an anchor event for the School of Design of NYP in future.
