3D-Laser Scanning is a latest innovative technology to completely capture objects digitally with dimensions in almost all directions. The scanner rapidly captures the surface shapes and sizes of objects, buildings, and landscapes, with accurate dimensions measured at a distance. It is particularly suitable to record dimensions and construction details of historic buildings in conservation and urban renewal projects. In collaboration with the Urban Renewal Authority and supported by a consultant company with experts in the field, a team of teachers and students from the Surveying Programme undertakes a research project on the integration of 3D-Laser Scanning, 3D-BIM Modelling and 5D-BIM Measurement techniques. The first field scanning work was carried out for a terrace of buildings over 50 years old in To Kwa Wan, Kowloon, on 3 October 2019.
