[Webinar] Heavy Metal Pollution in Hong Kong Country Parks
HALM Highway Research Project
A research team of students and teachers from the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Horticulture, Arboriculture and Landscape Management of the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) was commissioned by the Highways Department to study the vegetation cover of Eucalyptus trees of San Tin Highway in the North District. The team discovered that the branches of Eucalyptus trees on the slope may pose a danger under adverse weather conditions. In order to solve the related problems, the team proposed to use native plants as the vegetation cover and investigated the growth performance of native saplings on-site. In addition to the increase of biodiversity, the recommendation also reduces the risk of tree collapse and largely minimizes the chance of accidents.
